A Guide to Choosing the Right Dramatic Mascara

Finding a mascara that will not only open up your eyes but also give you that dramatic appeal can be quite tedious, especially since there are so many different brands and types of mascara out there to help you achieve that dramatic “look”.

No matter how you are trying to boost your lashes – whether it is through volume, length, or adding some curl – you can find the right mascara out there for you.

If you’re going for longer lashes…

For those of you trying to get that dramatic mascara that will help make your lashes look longer, one of the best choices out there (and perhaps best for your wallet) is L’Oreal’s “Lash Out” mascara. Many women who use this mascara swear by it and won’t use anything else!

This mascara won’t clump and it helps define your lashes evenly. The only drawback is that the mascara does tend to dry out after 2 to 3 months, but given how inexpensive it is to purchase it is definitely worthwhile.

If you have a bit more cash to spend on your lengthening, dramatic mascara, then try out Lancome’s “DEFINICILS” mascara in black. Many beauty editors and makeup artists use this product because it will fully lengthen your lashes and separate them well. It is long lasting, good for those who wear contact lenses or have sensitive eyes, and it is fragrance free.

If you’re going for volume…

If you want to get more thickness going on for your lashes, then choosing a good volumizing dramatic mascara is in order! L’Oreal is another brand that is a good choice when it comes to volumizing, especially their “Double Extend Lash Extender & Magnifier” mascara.

Try getting this mascara in “blackest black” and you won’t be disappointed. You start off with a primer that you place onto your lashes, and then you follow up with the “color coat”. At the end of the day, it isn’t too difficult to come off either if you have eye makeup remover on hand.

If you’re going for curl…

There are a lot of mascaras out there that promise to “curl” your lashes for you, but these really do not do the same job that 10 seconds with an eyelash curler will do for you. If you are keen on having a curling mascara, definitely go for the more expensive brands, like Lancome’s “VIRTUOSE” mascara in black.

This will both lengthen and add a curve to your lashes by use of a polymer that will do the work for you. If you want a less expensive and also slightly less expensive variation, try out Rimmel’s “Exaggerate Full Volume and Curl” mascara.

TIP: If you have naturally ‘straight’ eyelashes that are thick and have little to no curl, really consider using an eyelash curler for your lashes and stick with a volumizing or lengthening mascara.

Other great choices for getting those more bold and dramatic eyelashes include the Christian Dior “Show” mascara and Bourjois “Coup de Theatre False Lash Illusion” duo mascara. These mascaras will give you that direct from the stage or catwalk look.
