The Beauty Basics: 5 Tips Even You May Not Know

Beauty Basics

Whether you think you know everything or nothing about beauty, there’s always something new to learn to help improve your beauty routine. See how many of these beauty basics you can – or already do incorporate – into your own life.

Never – EVER – Forget the Sunscreen

Sunscreen is perhaps the single most important thing to remember when it comes to maintaining a good complexion. You may not realize how important it is when you’re 20, but when you are 50 you will certainly be able to see the difference between someone who routinely used sunscreen on their face as opposed to someone who did not.

TIP: Many moisturizers, powders, and foundations contain an SPF. If the SPF content is 15 or higher, you probably do not need to apply a separate sunscreen to your face.

Concealer is for patting, not rubbing

All too many women rub their concealer into their skin, which in effect really only removes half of the concealer that you had applied, which leads you to needing to apply more. When ever you are applying concealer, whether it is to a pimple, to under eye circles, or to a scar, pat it on gently with your middle finger (the “pointy” finger is too strong and will wipe off the concealer) until the area is fully covered. Follow up with a light dusting of powder.

Choose the Right Blush

Choosing the right kind of blush for your skin tone can be a bit daunting, and many women do get the color wrong for their skin tone. Here are the general guidelines for who should be buying what shade of blush:

  • Fair skin should go for pink or rose colors
  • Light skin tones should focus on nude punks, corals, or tans
  • Light to medium skin tones should consider pale rose, coral, or tan blushes
  • Medium to Tan skin tones should choose pink, rose, or coral
  • Tan skin will benefit from a tawny brown shade of blush

It is also important for you to choose a quality blush brush. Go for a large brush that has a dome-shaped head and a lot of strong fibers. When at all possible, avoid using the brushes that come in the small blush compact cases. These do not provide the appropriate coverage for the application of blush.

Apply Eye Shadow Correctly

Though eye shadow may be sold in single-color packets, they are not meant to be used that way. A dark shade is to go on the crease of your eyelid and perhaps slightly above the brow bone. A lighter shade should be applied to the lid, and may be able to be used as a highlighter on top of your brow bone.

Not All Shampoos are Created Equal

The stem of many peoples’ hair problems are directly linked to the type of shampoo that they use. Feel that your hair is too dry? Too oily?

Suddenly suffering from dandruff and/or an itchy scalp? Change up shampoos until you find one that is right for you and that makes your hair be lustrous and shine.
